Sometimes, to take your images to the next level, you need to do a bit of post-processing. Almost any smartphone’s camera produces nicer photos than any point and shoot from a few years ago. his point was still valid as far as I was concerned. It’s never been easier to take high quality photos. Though he put X-Windows on the same footing as gnome (when gnome runs on top of X-Windows), I didn't see any reason to correct him. I couldn't help but notice that you tried to tell soapvox the same thing, though you didn't call him "Stupid, ugly and dumb", you reserved that for me (I feel so special). You are going to find that the convention of using the term X-Windows is very well documented, and you are going to need to write an awful lot of nasty letters to the authors of may books and texts on the subject (dating back to the 80's When I first saw the term in school). I've been working with Unix based systems for years (and would bet that I own more systems running a Unix-based OS than you do), and X-Windows has always been an exceptable generic name for the versions you mentioned, and Sun's OpenWindows and Motif base Windowing systems (though I general don't lump it in there, but that is my personal preference). Yeah, yeah, sure there are other programs that do one or two things better than Photoshop, but seriously folkes, if you can only have one program, it's Photoshop, end of story, no discussion.Īs for lower end "non-professional" alternatives, what's so great about GIMP? There's a thousand perfectly usable, free or semi-free bitmap editors that would work fine for basic needs.Īgain, I have no idea, maybe GIMP is a perfectly fine product, but please, don't use it in the same sentence as Photoshop.

If you take images seriously, there is no alternative. Photoshop allows you to do whatever the hell you can imagine and do it five different ways to the same end. To be fair, I've never even tried GIMP, nor do I have any idea what it's feature list is, but I'm going to go ahead and pretend I do anyway.įor one, Photoshop has had a long list of competitive products that have all come and gone. Are you kidding me? Photoshop may be the best piece of software ever written in my book.
